Jotron Tron 60S/GPS EPIRB is a type of Emergency Position Indicating Radio Beacon dash EPIRB used to transmit distress signals in maritime emergency situations. The device is designed to be compact, handheld, fully sealed, and suitable for various vessel types such as commercial vessels, fishing vessels, service vessels, passenger vessels, offshore vessels, and recreational vessels requiring reliable maritime distress signaling equipment.
When activated, the EPIRB transmits a distress signal to assist search and rescue forces in identifying the distressed vessel. According to Jotron's guidelines, Tron 60Sand in appropriate configurations. These technologies help improve the quality of positioning data when the operating area has corresponding augmented signal support.Tron 60GPS are both EPIRBs; the main difference is that Tron 60S does not integrate GPSwhilethe Tron 60GPS has an integrated GPS to provide a more precise location.
Tron 60S/GPS is an EPIRB distress buoy used in the maritime safety system. The device transmits the main signal on frequency 406.037 MHz via the Cospas-Sarsat system and transmits a homing signal on 121.500 MHz to assist rescue forces in locating the vessel during the approach phase.
The Tron 60S/GPS series is designed to meet the IMO/SOLAS requirements for marine EPIRB equipment. With its compact size, the device is suitable for commercial vessels, fishing vessels, service vessels, and ships requiring dedicated GMDSS equipment.
This product line has two main versions:
| Version | Features |
|---|---|
| Tron 60S | 406 MHz EPIRB, without GPS integration |
| Tron 60GPS | 406 MHz EPIRB, with integrated GPS for enhanced position accuracy |
Jotron Tron 60S/GPScan be supplied with two types of brackets:
Jotron describes the Tron 60S/GPS as a buoyant device, capable of automatic or manual activation. The EPIRB will automatically activate when immersed in water, simultaneously transmitting the vessel's identification signal to search and rescue systems.
Both the float-free and manual brackets are designed with internal safety switches to prevent accidental activation from moisture, spray, or seawater while the EPIRB remains in its bracket.
According to the Jotron user manual, shore-based maintenance for satellite EPIRBs on passenger ships with more than 12 people and cargo ships over 300GT on international voyages must be carried out in accordance with the relevant SOLAS/IMO regulations. Battery replacement needs to be performed at a Jotron authorized location or by an authorized partner/distributor as required by the country and ship type.
The manual also states the requirement for an annual inspection of the 406 MHz EPIRB by an authorized radio surveyor or a person trained/certified by Jotron according to relevant requirements.
